There’s nothing quite like warm, home baked cookies made from scratch coming out of the oven. This article has two delicious orange cookie recipes that are sure to be favorites of your family and friends. Consider giving a plate of these cookies to a friend who is maybe experiencing a difficult time, a gesture that shows you care and are thinking of them.
Orange Cutout Cookies
Ingredients
- ½ cup softened butter
- 4 oz cream cheese softened
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1 teaspoon finely grated orange peel
- 1 egg
- 3 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
Buttercream Frosting
- 1/3 cup softened butter
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- ½ teaspoon finely grated orange peel
- 1 – 2 tablespoons orange juice
- In a large bowl, beat ½ cup butter and cream cheese with an electric mixer until creamy textured. Add sugar, orange peel and beat until fluffy. Beat in egg. On low speed gradually add in dry ingredients until mixed.
- Divide dough in half, wrap in plastic wrap and chill for 1 hour at least. Afterwards roll out on a lightly floured surface the dough to 1/8 inch thick and cut with your favorite cookie cutter.
- Place on ungreased cookie sheet and bake at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes. Let cool 2-4 minutes before transferring to cooling rack.
- For frosting, mix put butter in a bowl and mix with electric mixer until fluffy. Add powdered sugar gradually, when all is mixed, all orange peel and enough orange juice that it is a rich and creamy texture. Frost cookies.

- 1 ½ cups butter softened
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons finely grated orange peel
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 teaspoon orange extract
- 3 ½ cups flour
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1 ½ cups finely chopped pecans
- 1 cup mini semisweet chocolate chips
- In a large bowl with an electric mixer beat butter and sugar until well mixed. Beat in orange peel and extras. On a lower speed beat in dry ingredients, when thoroughly mixed, stir in chopped pecans and chocolate chips.
- Roll dough out on very lightly floured board to about ½ inch thick. Cut into 2 ½ inch circles with a plain or fluted edged cookie cutter. Place on an ungreased cookie sheet and an inch apart and bake at 350 degrees for 15 – 19 minutes. Let cool for 2-5 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack for completion.
